Newsletter May-June 2017

By triciawilson, May 5 2017 10:00AM

Spring is in the air and surprisingly some very spring like weather – it’s been wonderful to be able to take the children out in the garden and on their favourite walks! Then being Scotland the cold wet weather returned!! Can I please remind the parents that it’s ideal to have a supply of clothing for all weather especially sun hats as this allows us to take advantage of outdoors whenever the sun makes an appearance. For the wet days ABC has a supply of all in one waterproof suits which certainly helps but if wellies could be available it would be ideal and contributions of outgrown ones for our own wellie stock would be received with thanks.

In June we plan to distribute our parent & children questionnaires/survey as part of our self-assessment programme to help implement improvements driven by our service user’s and compile ABC Development Plan. Once they have all been returned and analyzed it is hoped the results will be made available during our parent’s consultation evening on Wednesday 26th July. Further information on our Parents evening will be issued closer to the time but please save the date in your diaries.

ABC is not permitted to hold our own stock of paracetamol (calpol) nappy cream and sun cream therefore could you please ensure that this is provided whenever the occasion requires.

Holidays

June signifies the beginning of the summer holiday period, could we request that those lucky enough to be going away please advise us to recorded the absences in the diary.

Menus

We received limited feedback to our request for ideas/suggestions on meals for ABC spring/summer menu. We would love to hear about your children’s favourites and where possible incorporate them in our selection. The new meals added to week 1 & 2 have been evaluated, the results have been published and displayed in the inner hall. Weeks 3 & 4 are still being measured, watch this space.

Staff Training

There have been a number of in house courses run in April which most of the staff have attended as a group; Building the Ambition, Literacy, Back to Basic. Moving into May and June we will be looking at My World Outdoors and Schemas. On an individual basis Josephine and Claire will be attending “How to get people involved” Lisa will be joining the “Let’s get crafty” course. As promised I advised to keep you updated with the training completed during March and April as info not available at the time of publication. Donna attended Child Protection in March and in April Nicola and Amy R completed “Let’s make music”

Points of Interest

Based on the children input the under 2’s are learning about construction and looking at the colour orange, number 2 and square shapes. For June the Jelly Babies will be exploring Nursery Rhymes, the colour green, triangle shapes and the number 3. The Jelly Tots will be completing projects on “the family” and have expressed an interest in animals therefore are planning visits to the pet shop and Mill Farm. For June their focus will be on Health & Wellbeing.

The Jelly Beans are very enthusiastic about everything creepy and crawly so bugs and insects are the theme of the day. Have you seen their butterfly lore?

We are about to embark on planting up our allotment ready for this season’s fresh fruit and veg which the children greatly enjoy and have shown much interest and enthusiasm during our discussions, especially when they see and taste the results of their labour being prepared and cooked in our freshly made meals.

Calendar

ABC will be holding our annual fun/open day with everyone invited along including extended family and friends. It is planned for Sunday 25th June which will follow our Graduation ceremony to mark the occasion for our children beginning school in August. A professional photographer will be in attendance to capture the event with both “class of 2017” and individual photo’s being taken. There will also be the opportunity of family group shots too. The day will begin 12.15pm for our graduates and their invited guests only up to 1.15pm at which point the Open day commences with all the fun of bouncy castle, face painting, games & activities, BBQ buffet so let’s all hope for a sunny day. Please look out for the notices!!! Anyone requiring further information please contact Debbie/Josephine. It is hoped that all our ”graduates” can attend but if anyone has a difficulty with this please advise the management to see if alternatives can be organised.

We will be focus on International Day of Families which is 15th May and exploring with the children all the various ways that we spend times with our family.

Father’s day this year falls on 18th June so the children will be doing activities based on this subject leading up to the day itself making surprises for the “special” man in their lives.

It’s a little bit early but this will be the last newsletter prior to the schools breaking up for summer hols so please remember to book your requirements for holiday club cover.

Staff News

Emma Clarke sadly left us on 7th April for pastures new. She will be sadly missed by all the staff and children. We are very proud to announce that Amy Richardson has completed her SVQ 3 studies and is now a qualified Practitioner. Congratulations from all your colleagues.

Policy of the Month

The Administration of medication policy was recently reviewed therefore has been selected as policy for May. Moving into June our Transition policy will be altered a little therefore recommend this as the policy for June.

Safety

It has been brought to the attention of management that the main entrance door to ABC is regularly being left open and with the safety of our children being paramount could we all please ensure that the door is closed over.

Anyone wishing to contribute to ABC newsletter or any other aspect of the setting please see Debbie were your input would be most welcome.
